Fleabag: The Original Play

Phoebe Waller-Bridge is a genius !

Fleabag: I have a horrible feeling I'm a greedy, perverted, selfish, apathetic, cynical, depraved, mannish-looking, morally bankrupt woman who can't even call herself a feminist.

I bought this Playwright a week ago. I’ve never seen a copy of it in my local bookstore, and I couldn’t take a chance of never seeing it again. (This was written on September 29, 2022)

I loved reading this more than the FLEABAG: The Scriptures.

I read the scriptures in the beginning of 2022. Back when the heartache of the last episode was still fresh. I would’ve understood the realness on Fleabag, if I watched it while it was still on air. I never would’ve understood the relatability Phoebe shows of womanhood, desire, nor why Fleabag does what she does; but were not here to talk about the brilliance that Fleabag (the series) is.

I knew I wanted to write about a young, sex-obsessed, angry, dry-witted woman, but the main focus of the process was her direct relationship with her audience and how she tries to manipulate and amuse and shock them, moment to moment, until she eventually bares her soul.” (pg.14)

I gave it 4.5 stars!

I did know that Fleabag started as a one-women show, that Phoebe had written. A few years later it was developed into series named after the play. The play is an amazing read, I really love Fleabag. Everything I consume about Fleabag, every time I understand her character more and more. Reading about more from Fleabag just makes me sad, Fleabag is just a woman in pain, mourning the death of her mother and best friend, she’s constantly looking for something to distract her.

“This young women was in so much pain and so much self-denial, but she’s so funny.

  • (Pg.31) Sometimes I get really sad reading about Boo and Fleabag’s relationship.

  • Whenever she feels stuck or sad, she immediately finds something to distracted her from feeling like that.

  • It’s just amazing,
