Funny Girl
Believe me when I say that once I bought the DVD for Funny Girl I didn’t watch anything new for the rest of the month. Whenever I had a day off I watched Funny Girl, after work I watched Funny Girl, and instead of doing soming productive I only got up to grab my DVD of Funny Girl and cry (alot). View my Lettterboxd dairy for proof…sadly it’s real (actually it’s not sad I desperately needed this little musical in my life.) It acted out what I feel everyday. I love Fanny Brice. I love women who are dreamers. I see myself in all of them. Let us all be stars!
“I’m the greatest star, I am by far
But no one knows it
That’s why I was born”
I really do look up to these kind characters who embody the feeling of yearning for people to see you as you see yourself. “I know what I am, and I will make you see it too.” I love Funny Girl so deeply. I had previously already known I was going to love it (that’s why I have two copies). I’d known a lot about Barbra Streisand’s talent after watching The Nanny. (Fran, another women I love.) You can say I was very aware of Barbra’s power to give you goosebumps with just her voice—and I was hit. Now here I am (rewatching as I type this) in love with it all.
The Fablemans
This is what I looked like when I first watched Fantastic Mr. Fox in the theaters.
I probably do say this about every film I watch, but it’s very real for The Fablemans—it changed my life. “He’s just like me.” I watched The Fabelmans at the exact time I need to see something like this. I was even frustrated with how a real a character felt how I felt about films. Throughout the film I kept on thinking, “wow, I’ve never had a original thought before.” I will be definitely rooting for The Fablemans and Everything Everywhere All At Once.
